Jammu: A man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor from Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.
While the 14-year-old girl was rescued from her abductor’s home in Poonch district, the accused was arrested at a locality in Jammu within three weeks of the incident, a spokesperson for the police.
He said the minor’s father filed a complaint at Reasi police station on December 28 last year, saying his minor daughter had gone out to buy milk from a shop but had not returned, suspecting that she could have been kidnapped.
A case was filed and an investigation opened which revealed the minor was abducted by Shakeel alias Sonu, a resident of Poonch, the spokesperson said.
Chief Superintendent of Police Reasi, Shalinder Singh has formed a task force led by a sub-inspector to rescue the abducted minor, the official added.
With the help of Poonch police, the team raided several locations and rescued the daughter from Shakeel’s house, who however managed to escape, he said.
He indicated that the medical examination of the victim was carried out by a commission of doctors and that the declaration of the minor was recorded before the judicial magistrate.
Based on the victim impact statement, offenses under IPC Section 376 (Rape) and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) were established and added here, the spokesperson said.
He said the girl was reunited with her family after the completion of legal proceedings.
The police team finally arrested the accused from Belicharana area in Jammu district, the spokesperson said, adding that Shakeel was already married to a woman from Pouni (Reasi) and left her there. some time.
Police are regularly briefed to remain sensitive to crimes against women, especially minors, the SSP said.
