Boston Beer Co. Unveils Pack of Ultra-Powerful Utopias | Eat Mass

Restaurant openings, closings

  • Boston (downtown): According to Eater Boston, the highly anticipated Bakery open September 14, bringing bread, sandwiches and pastries to Tremont Street. Pastry lovers will undoubtedly be there for its babkas with almonds, apples, cinnamon, raspberries and chocolate. For those who prefer their pastry to the salty side, be sure to grab a bureka of puff pastry with cheese, spinach and cheese, potato or matboucha, a spicy tomato and eggplant spread.
  • Boston (south end): Kohi Coffee Company is now open for business on Berkeley Street, says Boston Restaurant Talk. Located within the Revolution Hotel, its website features uniquely sourced, organic and fair trade coffee and espresso, tea and a selection of baked goods. Additional locations are in Provincetown, Boston and Brighton.
  • Cambridge: In partnership with CommonWealth Kitchen, MIT brought The launch pad at its Stratton Student Center, reports Eater Boston. The three additions to the food court are all establishments owned by immigrants and BIPOC: Las Palmas, which serves Dominican cuisine, Korean restaurant Bibim box, and Venezuelan rate at Las Carolines.
  • Cambridge (Cambridge East): Scheduled for early October, Cambridge Crossing will host Geppetto to its growing commercial, residential and retail space. Joining Lexington and Café Beatrice, Chef Will Gilson’s latest restaurant will feature Italian fare such as smoked short rib carpaccio, mushroom agnolotti, and hand-cut pappardelle with wild boar bolognese.
  • Cambridge (Inman Place): Do you miss the camaraderie of the People’s Republic? According to Boston Restaurant Talk, New Republic arrives in the former space of The Rising on Cambridge Street. Citing the bar’s Instagram account, he certainly appears to have ties to the holy pub, which closed earlier this year.
  • Newton: Flour bakery arrives at Newton’s Nonantum Village, according to Eater Boston. Featuring English muffins, cookies, breads and rolls, Flourhouse is the latest company on the team behind Mike & Patty’s and Hot Box. Online pre-orders are now taken, and pickups will begin September 23. Samples will also be available during its open house on September 25.
  • South of Boston: Boston Restaurant Talk reports that Cannonball Coffee getting ready to open on Dorchester Avenue. An Instagram account for the cafe is active, with posts already mentioning several of the items that will be carried with his java, including smoothies, cookies and pies from Petsi Pies. Its website was also created, encouraging job seekers to submit resumes for staff positions.
  • Somerville: As three new businesses head to Assembly Row, La Cucina moved. As reported by, the Italian restaurant posted the following message on its Instagram account last week: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, LA CUCINA is permanently closed as of Monday, September 13, 2021.”

Boston Beer Co. unveils latest batch of ultra-powerful utopias

Boston Beer Co.’s seasonal beers have long been expected and loved by beer connoisseurs over the years. Now the liquor company is releasing a beer so potent it’s been ruled illegal in 15 states, including two here in New England.

Officially released on October 11, Samuel Adams Utopias’ latest batch contains a staggering 28% alcohol by volume; significantly higher than his Boston Lager, which contains about five percent alcohol by volume. Therefore, the potency of the 25.4 ounce bottle of Utopias is equivalent to more than ten 12 ounce bottles of Boston Lager.

According to Sam Adams’ website, Utopias is a blend of batches, some of which have been aged for up to 30 years, with its flavor described as a “rich, deep malty creaminess reminiscent of vintage port, cognac or fine sherry.” .

Priced at $ 240 a bottle, it will only be available in the Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island and Connecticut areas. Utopias will not be shipped or sold in New Hampshire, Vermont, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, l ‘Oregon, South Carolina, Utah and West Virginia.

South Shore pizza bar is heading to South Boston: Thin and crispy bar-style pizza is a staple on the South Shore, but how can lovers get that authentic taste without having to make the trip by car? Bardo’s Bar Pizza has the answer by bringing all this goodness to Castle Island Brewery in South Boston.

Including a tangy blend of cheddar cheese and mozzarella for all of its pies, Bardo’s selection of uniquely topped pizza includes sausage, linguica, pickles, bacon and mushrooms. Some of his specialty pies go beyond classic toppings, like his Happy Camper (fresh mozzarella, pesto, kale, roasted red peppers, and Parmesan) and Bigge Shrimps (garlic shrimp, basil aioli and arugula). Fancy something other than pizza? Also on the menu, chicken wings, pretzel bites, sandwiches and salads.

Since beer and pizza are often paired, Castle Island Brewery Co. in Norwood is also opening its banquet hall, which will accommodate 400 people. Run by the family who own and operate Lombardo’s in Randolph, Bardo’s Bar Pizza opened on September 23.

Watertown Russo’s longtime market closes: After more than 100 years in business, the Watertown Russo’s grocery store officially closed its doors last Saturday. Owner Tony Russo has worked in the family business for over 70 years and announced his retirement and store closure last month. Originating on a farm in 1919 and eventually expanding into wholesale and retail, Russo’s sold fresh produce, flowers, pasta, baked goods, meats, and ready meals.

16th of Somerville What the Fluff? The festival returns this week: Thanks to Marshmallow Fluff, Massachusetts’ most famous sandwich is without a doubt the Fluffernutter. After a hiatus due to the pandemic, an event held at the birthplace of the crucial Gooey Marshmallow Cream for this sweet and savory concoction will once again commemorate its creation. The What is the Fluff? The festival will hold its 16th annual celebration in Somerville’s Union Square from September 22-26, focusing on all things Fluff. The restaurants and bars participating in the festival include Machu Picchu, Momo N Curry, Gracie’s Ice Cream and The Independent.

According to the official Marshmallow Fluff website, it was created in 1917 by Archibald Query. Query made the cream in his house and sold it door to door, but was forced to close due to shortages during WWI. After the war, he sold the recipe to the two men who would go on to form Durkee Mower, the Lynn- based company that continues to make Marshmallow Fluff to this day.
