A minor victim of a gang rape in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A teenage girl who went to a pub here five days ago for a daytime party was allegedly raped by five people, including three minors, police said on Friday.

The 17-year-old girl’s father filed a complaint with police on May 31, saying she may have been sexually assaulted, but could not reveal what happened as she was in shock, they said.

Speaking to a press conference on Friday evening, Deputy Police Commissioner Joel Davis said a case for indecent exposure of a woman and under relevant sections of the POCSO Act had been filed after the the girl’s father complained.

The girl was sent to a “Bharosa” support center for women and children of the municipal police because she is a minor.

Female staff at the center comforted her and a statement was recorded, Davis said.

Based on the girl’s statement, the case was amended to invoke ICC Section 376D (gang rape) and other relevant sections of the POCSO Act, the official said, adding that she does not could not identify the accused because they were not known to him.

Investigation teams collected and analyzed CCTV footage and other evidence, and identified five people, he said.

An 18-year-old defendant was arrested on Friday, the police chief said.

Prima facie, police have evidence against three minors and another 18-year-old, Davis said.

Police teams are apprehending the other defendants, and they will be apprehended within 48 hours, he said.

A minor allegedly involved in the case could not be apprehended because it was dark. It will be picked up on Saturday, the official said.

One of the miners is the son of a prominent figure, he added.

Responding to a question, the police chief said the son of an MP was not among the five accused according to the available evidence.

The investigation will continue and further action will be taken accordingly, he said.

The issue has taken on a political hue, with the opposition BJP alleging the involvement of the ruling TRS and AIMIM leaders in the case and objecting to the alleged delay in arresting the accused.

Chanting slogans against the police and others, BJP activists held a dharna at the Jubilee Hills police station in the city, demanding swift action.

Acting TRS Chairman and Minister of State KT Rama Rao expressed his shock at the news of the minor’s rape and urged Interior Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and the police to take immediate and effective action. strict in this regard.
